Special Education: The Way Out for All Nigerians

Special Education has been known in various institutions in Nigeria. The value attach to it is good but additional values can be added in following ways:

1. Calling attention of the family to the nature of disability  the child has

2. Early identification through consultation with special educator or behaviour modification expert

3. Diagnosis: This may be through medical/ clinical report on the client

4. Placing the child on a programme suitable for his/her disability

5. Monitoring the progress of his/her academic pursuit

6. Evaluating the report termly or per session

Society, families and relatives of children with special needs should play roles of teacher and make sure that their god-given blessings are not relegated.

THE SEASON OF LOVE: CHRISTMAS

The Christian life was not designed to be lived alone, so we should show our thankfulness and love for one another. Showing love to others is a true outward expression of our faith in Christ and how He loved us. Therefore, as we grow in our faith, our love for others should also increase. When we begin to understand Christ’s sacrifice more fully, we will be more willing to give of ourselves to others.

God did not send His son to condemn us. God did the total opposite – He sent His son to save us from condemnation and eternal damnation. The reason we can gladly say we are children of God, and that the salvation we have received is eternal, is because God gave His son up to pay the price so that we wouldn’t have to. We will never find a love greater than this from anyone else.

To enjoy God's love and eternal peace, if you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, please do so now.

A Merry Christmas and A Progressive 2024

International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 2023

Disability lives in the heart of whoever refuse to see ability in disability. Disability is not incurable illness that can claim the life of victim anyday.

Persons with special needs are uniquely endowed with gifts and talents. They are handiworks of supreme being.

Families, friends, siblings and society should not relegate these wonderfully made species to the end of nonentity road.

In the kingdom of human, all are special and deserve better treatment.

Oh, where is God's love among us when we treat people with special needs in ungodly manner.

Disability exists in all humans, hence, perfection domiciles in God of the universe.

As we celebrate "International Day of Persons with Special Needs" today, let us change our choruses of singing someone is normal and another is abnormal.

No abnormalities in the dictionary of creator of all.

Congratulations to all my friends with disabilities today and always. I love you all.

Special Education: The Discipline for Nigeria Education Advancement

Advancement is a prestigious position in any human endeavour. The school-age children and adults that are uniquely created by supreme being deserve attention of all members of the society.

A reputable discipline that is taking care of people who require differentiated resources, programmes, and rehabilitation services is special education.

Special education serves as viable instrument to revive dwindling Nigerian educational system.

All children can be educated through inclusive pedagogical system. To embrace turnaround, members of families of differently made persons and our society should be attentive and supportive.

Proactive intervention and sustainability of special education curriculum by government and special educators will set pace in this period that some parents need diagnostic techniques and educational placement for their children.

Until we see them as part of us and make provisions for their self-reliance, our country will continue the way minority population has been handling the major source of advancement (special education sector).

Skillful, professionally trained and certificated people with disabilities can contribute immensely towards achieving sustainable development goals.

Thank you very much for sparing part of your today in reading this.

I wish you well.

WHAT YOU NEED IN THIS PERIOD

Stay strong, because things will get better. Let everyone know that you are stronger than you were yesterday and you will always be.

Your present situation is not your final destination. Be brave in holding on and continuing strong. Life won't get any easier, therefore, you will just have to get stronger. True strength is discovered when everything is falling apart but you have the strength inside you to keep them all together.

You are not weak if you are reading this. Whatever this wonderful thing called life throws at you, you can get through it.

It may knock you down in a way but there is always a ladder of opportunity waiting for you to climb up higher than before. Nobody can climb a ladder from the top.

Sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better. Never give up on trying to figure out solution to present challenges.

God will only bless the little effort that you put in place, He is not a magic professor that many of us read about years ago.

We survived meltdown, inconclusive, cashless, we will survive and sing new song after subsidy remover period.

The good or bad we do will live with us and after us.

I choose to be good, what about you?

It is another end of the week. Relax and make positive plans to get up, try your best and support it with prayer points.

Purpose of Holidays for Children

Holiday refers to a short period of time that one spends doing leisure activities. Holidays are expected to be spent by children through visiting of friends, and relatives to have more sense of belonging, extended family experiences and learn about culture. It is wrong to engage children in extra school lessons or special coaching centres during this period if they are not having deficiencies. They need some recreational activities and artistic knowledge/skills as well.

Many parents of today spent their holidays in their family compounds and/or villages with grandpas, grandmas, cousins, nephews, aunts, uncles etc. and gained a lot of social, educational, farming, religious, cultural and native intelligence experiences. Do not let us deprive these children of their rights in the name of modernisation or civilisation. They need more than school environment experiences to cope with our ever-changing society. While exposing them to family, creative, and leisure activities, we should be watchful and prayerful.

Words with same Meaning as Holidays:

  1. vacation.
  2. break.
  3. leave.
  4. hols.
  5. recess.
  6. relaxation.
  7. rest.
  8. sabbatical.

SPECIAL EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION SCIENCES: GATEWAY FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Nobody is one hundred percent able. A person who cannot calculate (acaculus) has learning disability. What other people can do but I cannot do makes me a person with special needs. Disabilities cut across all ages of humanity.

Persons with special needs are very important and they require sense of belonging by all citizens. A regular student may possess high intellect but he/she can never be perfect. All Nigerians are valuable and resourceful.

To bring back the lost ability, there is need to rehabilitate whoever needs special attention. God is not happy with those who are not treating persons with special needs kindly.

Special education is designed to take care of the needs of those who are differently made. All human beings are talented/gifted, we need interpersonal and collective efforts and supports to develop ourselves and improve our quality of life.

Rehabilitation sciences deal with nature and nurture. Special educators have firsthand knowledge and skills on how to reform or return affected educational, physical, emotional, social, economical and psychological handicapping conditions of concerned individuals to right positions.

Gateway to success of these people is to accept them and give necessary attention and services by all and sundry.

God Bless You

Who is a gifted child?

Everyone is naturally endowed. God is the giver of all children and there is no child without a talent or gift. Both formal and informal environments are responsible for success or failure of any child. Nigeria has a lot of gifted individuals.

A gifted child is naturally endowed with above average intelligence or exceptional ability in a specific sphere of skill or knowledge.  In some states or countries, definition of giftedness has to do with Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of 130 and above.  Some schools or professionals use multiple measures of giftedness and assess a wide variety of talents, including verbal, mathematical, spatial-visual, musical, and interpersonal abilities to determine who a gifted child is.

A child is gifted if he/she is excelling in more than one subject in educational setting. Peers or relatives of this child may give him/her names such as “allrounder”, “efiko”, “omowe”, “igi iwe”, and/or “over-syllabus”.

Gifted children are inexhaustible resources. Their contributions to the society will bring about development if they are identified, nurtured and encouraged. It is the duty of every citizen to put in place measures that will enable gifted children to positively influence our environment and showcase us to the global system.

Try to discover your area of giftedness, thrive to develop it and influence your community. If all of us use our natural traits as expected, we shall sing melodious songs and dance in joy.
